What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of natural healing founded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German chemist and physician more than 250 years ago. The word Homeopathy is derived from two Greek words: homeos – similar and pathos – suffering.

Homeopathy is based on the principle of treating a disease with a medicine that expresses similar symptoms to the disease itself. The healing power of medicine lies in its ability to mimic the natural disease it is used to treat.

For example, peeling an onion causes itchy, watery eyes. A homeopathic preparation made from onion can be used to treat someone suffering from hay fever. The homeopathic onion produces a similar expression to the hay fever symptoms and the suffering is relieved

“A medicine which can cause symptoms in the healthy can cure those same symptoms in the sick.”

 ~ Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755 – 1843)

Health as a State of Balance

According to homeopathy, health is a state of balance. This balance is maintained by an inner Life Force. In health, the Life Force maintains this balance in all aspects of our being. Our bodies are strong and flexible, and our minds and emotions are balanced and receptive. We can connect with our inner light, experience the fullness of life, and respond to challenges that come our way with clarity and resilience.

When the Life Force is disturbed by inherited or developmental issues or by trauma or by overwhelming stresses, it becomes weakened and imbalanced. This imbalance is expressed as illness. The role of homeopathy is to stimulate the Life Force to re-establish a state of balance. As the life force is restored to balance, the illness recedes and the individual returns to a state of equilibrium.

"I can’t manage without homeopathy. In fact, I never go anywhere without homeopathic remedies. I often make use of them."
